Typical profile
In a team
In a team, you quickly see what the goal is, and you're happy to be the one who keeps things moving. You stay steady under pressure, which makes others feel safe too. It works best when you hear out the quieter people before deciding, and actually hand out tasks instead of carrying everything yourself.
Studying and exam season
You study best with a goal: knowing what it's for and seeing yourself make progress. In exam season, organising a study group can work well for you, but keep time for your own practice too. Don't let speed cost you depth: on the harder topics, stop and check that you really understand them.
Under stress
What frustrates you most is slow progress, or things hanging on decisions you can't influence. It helps to separate what's up to you from what isn't, and to focus on your part. If you've taken on too much, hand some of it over: that doesn't make you any less, it makes the team stronger.
Growth tips
- Before you decide, ask at least one teammate what they think, and hear them out.
- Practise delegating: explain the goal and leave the 'how' to the other person.
- Say something appreciative when someone has done good work: the team draws strength from that too.
For your first student job
- If you can, look for fast-paced work where results show quickly, like sales, promotions or event work.
- At first, watch how the team works before you reorganise anything: trust has to be earned first.
- Ask your manager what responsibility you could take on later, and what you'd need to show for it.
