Frequently asked questions

What counts as a good result?
The adult average is 30–40 words per minute, which is about 150–200 characters per minute. Above 40 WPM you count as skilled, above 52 WPM as a pro. For office, data entry and customer service student jobs, accuracy above 95% matters as much as speed.
How are WPM and characters per minute calculated?
Net characters per minute are the characters of the correctly typed words per minute, including the spaces between them (a word with a mistake does not count). WPM follows the international convention and divides this by five (one “word” = 5 keystrokes). The gross figure counts every character you typed, mistakes included — but not the ones deleted with Backspace. We measure word by word: if you skip or add a letter, only that word is wrong, and the next one starts with a clean slate.
Is there a Hungarian version?
Yes — the Hungarian typing test (gépelési teszt) uses Hungarian sentences with accented letters (ő, ű, á), so results in the two languages are not directly comparable. The English sentences are our own everyday, student-job themed texts. If you use a Hungarian (QWERTZ) keyboard, mind the swapped Y and Z keys.
Do you store my result?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser: neither the text you type nor your result is sent to our server. You can copy the result into your CV or share it yourself.
